Next Android flavor: 'Key Lime Pie'?

After a while, guessing Google's next Android "flavor" has become as much a culinary curiosity as it is a guessing game.

So, after "Ice Cream Sandwich" and "Jelly Bean," is "Key Lime Pie" the code name for the next flavor of Google's Android operating system for mobile devices?

Tech site "The Verge" cited a "reliable source" as saying that said Google will use the dessert's name for the next version of Android after "Jelly Bean."

"We've been tipped by a reliable source today that Google will be using the name 'Key Lime Pie' for the version of Android that comes after Jelly Bean (in fact, the information comes from the very same source that tipped us to the Jelly Bean codename last year)," it said.

However, it said there is still no detail on when "Key Lime Pie" will be officially unveiled or what the version number may be.

It speculated that "Key Lime Pie" may be delivered in 2013.

"It's reasonable to think that it could be a 2013 deliverable, particularly as Google has slowed down Android's iterative pace over the past couple versions," it said.

Google's current Android version is "Ice Cream Sandwich," although the search giant had dropped hints of "Jelly Bean" with a candy bowl at the recent Mobile World Congress in Spain. — TJD, GMA News
