Anonymous hacktivists set sights on pedophiles

Hacktivist group Anonymous is now targeting pedophiles, zeroing in on at least 100 websites with its "Operation PedoChat," a tech site reported Tuesday.

ZDNet said the group appeared to have taken down several websites used by pedophiles to trade questionable images and videos of children.

"Anonymous has promised 'defaces, logs & dox (gathering information about someone using Internet sources) and the occasional domain hijack as well,'" it said.

The group was also quoted by ZDNet as saying it aims to "diminish if not eradicate this plague from the Internet."

It said information about hundreds of pedophiles - both users and administrators of these websites - had already been posted.

But ZDNet also noted some of the attacked sites had already returned.

Still, it said Anonymous members involved in the operation are bent on doing much damage.

The details of the operation have already been translated into French, German, Greek, and Irish, and more translations are coming, it added.

ZDNet said this was not the first time Anonymous has taken on child pornography, having had success in this area.

In October 2011, Anonymous attacked over 40 pedophilia-sharing websites and exposed more than 1,500 alleged pedophiles using them. — TJD, GMA News
