Hacks, uncivilized behavior eyed behind 'Guild Wars 2' lockouts

Shortly after the launch of "Guild Wars 2," the new massively multiplayer online role-playing game, some players are already finding themselves locked out of their own accounts, a video game site reported.

Game publisher ArenaNet noted some accounts had been hacked by gold-sellers while other accounts were linked to Holocaust jokes and gay-bashing and the like, Videogamer.com said.

"In response to enquiries, ArenaNet confirmed on Reddit that some users' accounts had been hacked," Videogamer.com said.

The confirmation came amid complaints by some users that in-game items had gone missing. Others complained being locked out of the game entirely.

VideoGamer.com said its own Matt Nellis noted problems after receiving two emails supposedly from ArenaNet, suggesting that an unauthorized third party tried to reset his account password.

Videogamer.com quoted ArenaNet as saying accounts could be hacked by gold sellers.

It quoted ArenaNet as advising gamers "to be vigilant on receiving emails related to game accounts."

A separate blog post by security vendor Sophos, meanwhile, said ArenaNet also suspended the accounts users who violate their policies on user names or behavior.

Sophos said ArenaNet explained on Reddit that it suspended various users for "using offensive and inappropriate names."  — TJD, GMA News
