Photoshop to drop Windows XP support
Bad news for Windows users sticking to – or stuck with – XP: The next version of Adobe’s Photoshop software is dropping support for the 11-year-old operating system.
Adobe Lightroom product manager Tom Hogarty said Photoshop CS6 (13.0) will be the last major version of the popular photo processing software to support Windows XP.
“The Photoshop team would like to provide advanced notice that Photoshop CS6 (13.0) will be the last major version of Photoshop to support Windows XP. (Photoshop CS6 does not support Windows Vista.) In addition, all subsequent Photoshop feature updates specifically for Creative Cloud members will no longer support Windows XP,” he said in a blog post.
Photoshop CS6 does not support Windows Vista, Hogarty noted.
Hogarty also said Adobe wants to take advantage of advances available on newer operating systems and hardware to deliver significantly better performance.
Already, he said Photoshop CS6 shows that relying on a modern operating system, graphics cards/GPUs and graphics drivers can lead to substantial improvements in 3D, Blur Gallery and Lighting Effect features not available to Windows XP customers.
“We encourage all customers who are currently using Windows XP to begin making their migration plans now so they can fully take advantage of future Photoshop innovations as soon as they are available,” he said.
A separate article on CNET said this came after Google announced it will no longer support Google Apps on IE8, the latest version of Internet Explorer running on XP. Windows Vista and 7 can run IE9, and IE10 is coming with Windows 8. — TJD, GMA News
