Project NOAH app for Android now available, iOS version coming Xmas
Filipinos on the go can now check information on rain or flooding on smartphones or tablets running Google's Android OS, with an app for Project NOAH.
Available currently in beta, the app is a mobile version of the Project NOAH website (noah.dost.gov.ph) though without the Flood Map features yet.
"Project NOAH’s (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) mission is to undertake disaster science research and development, advance the use of cutting edge technologies and recommend innovative information services in government's disaster prevention and mitigation efforts," read a description of the app on Google Play.
Its features include:
Map View
- PAR (Philippine Area of Responsibility)
- Overview (MTSAT, Rainfall Contour, Chance of Rain, etc)
- Doppler (Subic, Tagaytay, Cebu, Hinatuan)
- Sensors (Weather Stations, Stream Gauges, Rain Gauges)
- Weather Outlook (Probablity of Rain, PAGASA Typhoon Forecast)
List View
- Almost same with Map View but presented as list for ease of use.

Also avaialble from the app are status notifications for "Probability of Rain."
It also allows a user to share screenshots or text contents to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Bluetooth, or Gmail.
The app also supports animated overlays (MTSAT, Doppler, Chance of Rain) and has "very flexible Settings."
The app was last updated Oct. 9, at version 1.0.4b. It runs on Android versions 2.2 and up and is a 2.1-mb download.
iOS version out before Xmas
Project NOAH head Mahar Lagmay said the Android app will be officially launched this Friday.
When asked when an iOS version will be available, he said it is still "under development" and should be out before Christmas Day. — TJD, GMA News
