GMail now lets users search for emails by size, age
Users of Gmail, Google's free email service, now have more options in searching for particular messages they have sent or received.
Gmail software engineer Christian Kurmann said new filters allow searches for emails by size, exact match, and more flexible date options.
"These changes go hand in hand with other recent enhancements to search such as the improved autocomplete predictions and a field trial for instant results from Gmail, Google Drive and more as you type," Kurmann said in a blog post (http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/search-for-emails-by-size-and-more-in.html).
In illustrating the new search features, Kurmann said those who want to find emails larger than 5 MB can type "size:5m" or "larger:5m" in the Gmail search box.
They may also type "older_than:1y" to find emails sent over a year ago, he added.
Last month, Gmail rolled out a new feature that allows an email being composed to pop up as a separate window.
Gmail product manager Phil Sharp said the completely redesigned compose and reply windows will make Gmail faster and easier to use by saving one from having to save a draft, open the old email, and then reopen the draft (http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2012/10/introducing-new-compose-in-gmail.html).
"The new compose is designed to let you focus on what's important: your message. The controls are still there when you need them but get out of the way when you don’t. We’ve even added some new features like the ability to easily insert inline images and have more to come," he added. — TJD, GMA News
