Want to run Windows apps on Android? Mobile 'Wine' coming soon
Here's something for techies using Windows laptops and Android smartphones to look forward to: that is, if a software developer's efforts prove successful.
Alexandre Julliard is working to port WINE (WINdows Emulator) from desktop versions of Linux to the mobile version of Linux - such as Google's Android, The Next Web reported.
"While Wine for Android likely won’t be release-ready for quite some time, the fact that Julliard already has a working version is impressive and promising. Android users have been asking about getting Wine running on Android for years, and now it’s finally something that is possible," it said.
Many Linux users are familiar with WINE - which some of them refer to as "Wine Is Not an Emulator" - as an open-source application that lets Windows apps run on Unix-based systems.
Linux and Apple's OS X are considered examples of Unix-based systems.
But while Julliard, the original developer behind the project, showed off WINE on Android recently, the performance was "horrendously slow."
The Next Web said Julliard used an Apple MacBook for developing his software. — ELR, GMA News
