LG reportedly working on Windows Phone 8 device

Korea-based electronics company LG is working on a new phone running Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 operating system, an Indian site reported over the weekend.

Light Reading India quoted LG India’s managing director Kwon Soon as saying the upcoming LG smartphone is still at the research-and-development stage.

“At home (South Korea), we are actually working on our Windows Phone 8 OS powered smartphone,” Kwon said.

Kwon said there is no definite date on the launch of the Windows Phone 8 smartphone.

But Kwon maintained LG will still have Google's Android on most of its smartphones, though Windows may "pick up going ahead" as Microsoft is "pumping efforts into it."

LG Electronics presently offers high-end Optimus smartphones powered by Android.

For now, Finland-based Nokia has all of its smartphones powered by Microsoft's OS. Some Samsung models also run on Windows Phone 8.

Light Reading India said Chinese smartphone makers Huawei and ZTE, and Taiwan-based HTC, also offer Windows-based smartphones.
