New Google Chrome beta features easier search, developer features

Shortly after releasing the latest stable version of its Chrome browser, Google is getting friendlier with developers by releasing a beta for the next version of Chrome.

Google's Karen Grünberg said Chrome 30 Beta is for Microsoft's Windows, Apple's Mac, Linux and Chrome Frame.

In a blog post, she said the key changes include:

  • Easier searching by image
  • New apps/extension APIs
  • Under-the-hood changes for stability and performance
A separate report on The Next Web said the latest Chrome beta now lets a user right-click or long-press an image, then search for it via one's default search provider.

It added Chrome beta for Android now supports new gestures.

"You can swipe horizontally across the top toolbar to quickly switch tabs (instead of swiping from the edge of the screen), drag vertically down from the toolbar to enter into the tab switcher view, and drag down from the menu to open it and select the item you want without having to lift your finger," it said.

It added the biggest developer addition is WebGL support on Android, which it said now enabled by default for devices with high-end mobile GPUs.

"Chrome 30 could arrive as soon as September, but will most likely show up in October," it added. — VC, GMA News
