Secure mobility firm Good Technology expands to local market

Good Technology, a company that offers applications serving as secure mobile platforms for enterprise data, has opened its services to local financial service industries (FSI) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and will soon have them available to government medical institutions as well.

Its services have already been acquired by two major banks and several SMEs, said regional director Anthony Tian.

"I think the organizations are definitely aware of the [security] threat," he said. "They know that the global trend is toward the increased use of mobile devices, and they'd like to enable their employees to become more productive by using their personal mobile devices.

"But at the same time, they also want to protect company information from malware and jailbroken or looted devices, among others."

Keeping up with the trend

Because business transactions are often done on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, both company and personal data are found together in a single device, leaving some enterprise data vulnerable when they are made available via cloud databases.

To prevent the compromise of sensitive company data from cloud databases, Good Technology provides a platform where all work data can be stored and protected in one's mobile device.

While it does not completely prevent data from being hacked, the security provided by Good Technology offers will at least make it more difficult for hackers to get in.

"Because of the strong encryption technology that we have on the application that is built on our security platform, it makes it much [more] difficult for people to get information that is secured by Good," said Tian.

Other offered applications and clients

Good Technology provides applications for secure collaborative workflows. For instance, a third-party application called iAnnotate for Good allows people to edit PDF files containing sensitive information in a secure platform.

Good Technology offers applications that protect emails, Personal Information Managers (PIM), browsing, file sharing, and instant messaging. It also handles third-party applications that enable secure business transacting.

Good partnered with local distributor Westcon Solutions in September last year to expand its market to the Philippines.

Good's customers in the Asia Pacific region include Bangkok Bank, Bank of New Zealand, Bank of Queensland, Bupa, Chio Lim Stone Forest, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and the Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population & Communities.
