Travian, cult browser game, turns 9
It isn't every day that a computer game, much less a browser-based one, can still command quite a following after nine years. A special day it is for Travian.
Travian is giving its players a ninth anniversary gift: a chance to win strictly limited Travian-amulets.
"There will be a birthday world. The special thing is, apart from many other surprises, that there will be a prolonged settling-in period, thus making the entrance into the game easier and establishing a balance between players with different experience levels. Also we will give away Travian gold for our birthday!" game director Eckart Foos said.
On the other hand, Travian will connect the online with the offline world for the first time, by presenting 999 limited-edition Travian amulets.
"But the Travian-amulet is not for sale - it can exclusively be won. The much sought-after collector's item will be raffled in all 50 Travian countries," Foos said.
Since it debuted in September 2004, the Munich-designed game has reached cult status with 125 million players, making it one of the most popular and best-known browser-based games internationally.
Regardless of whether they play as the role of a Roman, Gaul or Teuton, players play Travian to expand their territory either peacefully or martially.
In the process, they can form alliances and establish diplomatic communication among each other.
Players start with a small village, surrounded by resource fields, then establish a powerful empire and be the first to build one of the historic wonders of the world. — ELR, GMA News
