Microsoft rushes urgent fix for IE browser

Microsoft released this week an urgent patch that addresses a flaw in an update it issued last week for its Internet Explorer browser.

PC World reported the software giant issued out-of-band the update after the new flaw was targeted by attacks in the wild.

"The update from Microsoft is a Fix-It tool, which is more of a stop-gap bandage than an actual patch," it said.

It added the Fix-It will protect IE and prevent the currently circulating exploit from working on Windows systems.

But PC World said the patch works only with 32-bit versions of Internet Explorer, and a user must have installed the cumulative update for IE from last week.

Also, it noted Microsoft had claimed running IE in Enhanced Security Configuration mode prevents such attacks. — VC, GMA News
