WATCH: Adventure Time fan makes working BMO from LEGO, Raspberry Pi

A LEGO fan has paid tribute to BMO in the popular animated series "Adventure Time," by building a model of the Gameboy-like electronic character - using LEGO and a Raspberry Pi microcomputer.

Software developer Michael Thomas told CNET Australia he created the model for BrickCon 2013, after thinking of the idea some months back.

"I had purchased a Raspberry Pi and was trying to come up with interesting unique projects to make use of it. Being a fan of LEGO, I'm also always looking for creative LEGO builds to take on. I had seen some other Raspberry Pi LEGO cases, and I knew the two fit well together. Around that time, I was also just starting to watch episodes of Adventure Time," he said.

"It was hard not to enjoy Finn and Jake's lovable electronic companion, BMO. It didn't take much at that point to decide that I should attempt to bring BMO to life, with LEGO skin and a Raspberry Pi heart," he added.

But the result was worth it: his model is in many ways just like BMO in the TV show, being able to run video games, play video, and surf the web, CNET said.

The LEGO BMO will be displayed at BrickCon in Seattle on October 5 and 6.

For his BMO, Thomas used a Model B Raspberry Pi board with a 4GB SD card with the Raspbian Linux OS.

He also used a 2.5-inch TFT display for the screen.

But it was not quite easy, Thomas said. He said he needed several weeks to procure the needed parts.

"Once I had all the parts, it took a couple weeks of plucking away at putting it together (and dusting up on my soldering skills) during my free time," he added. — TJD, GMA News
