Google's Knowledge Graph now in Filipino too

Google's Knowledge Graph, a sophisticated database that tries to connect people, places and things, now has a Philippine flavor.

The Internet giant on Wednesday said its Knowledge Graph in Filipino is accessible to people using its Philippine site google.com.ph.

"We are pleased to provide even more tools to Filipino users to help them unlock information on the Web. Google has always believed the perfect search engine should understand exactly what you mean and give you back exactly what you want. We’re getting closer and closer to that vision," said Google Philippines Country Head Narciso Reyes.

"With the Knowledge Graph, Google can better understand your query, so we can summarize relevant content around that topic, including key facts you’re likely to need for that particular thing or person. For example, if you’re looking for 'Nick Joaquin,' Google will show you a panel with biographical information about the author, links to some of his works, and people commonly associated with him as well," Google added.

Google considers the Knowledge Graph as a "critical first step towards building the next generation of search," which taps into the collective intelligence of the web and "understands the world a bit more like people do."

It added that since it launched the Knowledge Graph in 2012, it has helped users discover new information quickly and easily.

"Starting today, we’re launching the Knowledge Graph in Filipino, so that users already searching in that language will see information presented to them in Filipino right from the search results page," Google said.

The Knowledge Graph was initially announced for English-language users in August 2012.

It has since been available to French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Turkish, and Polish users.

"Today we’re announcing the expansion of the Knowledge Graph to Croatian, Serbian, Hindi, Slovak, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Persian, Catalan, and Latvian, as well as Filipino. The Knowledge Graph is also available on smartphones and tablets," Google said. — TJD, GMA News
