Apple, Google reject games with ‘flappy’ in title

Apple and Google banning clones of now-defunct 'Flappy Bird'?
A report on tech site TechCrunch quoted Vancouver-based game designer Ken Carpenter as saying Apple's App Store rejected his app titled "Flappy Dragon."
"(W)e found your app name attempts to leverage a popular app," TechCrunch quoted Carpenter as recalling what Apple told him.
It added Apple told Carpenter his app supposedly violated the App Store review guidelines, which frown on apps that contain "false, fraudulent or misleading representations."
The original "Flappy Bird," which became a viral hit, had been pulled out by its creator who was overwhelmed by the popularity of the game.
On the other hand, TechCrunch said other developers were similarly affected.
It cited the case of Kuyi Mobile, which said some developers trying to launch their own “Flappy” clones were rejected "for the same reason."
But the report cited information that some clones of "Flappy Bird" that do not include “Flappy” in the title, like “Splashy Fish” and “Ironpants,” stayed in the App Store.
"In other words, the App Store’s top charts are being absolutely decimated by 'Flappy Bird' clones. And users are still eating them up en masse," it said.
Google too
TechCrunch said Kuyi Mobile and Happy Mage Games have claimed Google is similarly rejecting apps that use “Flappy” in the title.
“The first time I assumed it was because I included a phrase about ‘Flappy Dragon’ being the best flapping game to play now that ‘Flappy Bird’ is dead. My app was originally published with no issue and was online and searchable for a few hours,” Carpenter said.
He said he received a suspension notice from Google, adding there was no "Fair Warning" email, which Google claims to send before taking such actions.
”The message they sent me simply referenced the ‘spam’ provision of the Google Play terms and did not specifically call out what my transgression was,” he said. — VC, GMA news
