This smart kitty feeder uses facial recognition to track your cat's diet

Worried that your cat is skipping meals? This high-tech feeder could be the solution.

Introducing Bistro, a high-tech feeder that recognizes your cat via a "cat facial recognition technology" and tracks its eating habits.

A report on tech site Mashable said Bistro's camera allows an owner to remotely monitor the cat while it eats, while the feeder measures how much food the feline consumes.

Owners can also dispense a pre-portioned amount of food for the cat, the report said.

Personal experience

The report said Bistro's creator, Mu-Chi Sung, developed the device after one of his three cats stopped eating due to pancreatitis and almost died.

"The cats share the same bowl, so I can't tell who's eating and who's not. I wanted to know how they're doing at home," he told Mashable.

Future plans

Mashable quoted Sung as saying he may build variants for other animals.

"I would love to apply it to other pets. That will be our next project," he said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
