Teams to prove their mettle in final edition of ‘Tagisang Robotics’
More than thirty schools are preparing to face off against one another in “The Ultimate Clash,” the fourth Tagisang Robotics: Design, Build and Play Competition organized by the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).
The competition, to take place at the SMX Convention Center from October 29-30, aims “to raise students’ interest in science, engineering/technology, mathematics and information and communications technology through the conduct of the dynamic competition.”
According to a DOST press release, the competition really began in August when kits containing robot parts were distributed to participating schools. Teams had three months to build their robots, while undergoing technical training as well.
Alliances, made up of three teams, will then compete using robots in games like basketball and football.
Winners of the Best Team Award will receive a P 100,000 cash prize and winners of the Best Alliance Award get P 150,000. Other awards include the Best Engineering Award, the Most Popular Robot Award, the Most Popular Team Award, and the Best Blog Award.
The annual robotics competition started in 2011, but this year’s showcase will be the final one. According to SEI Director Dr. Josette Biyo, SEI is planning to launch a new campaign instead; the Philippine Can Satellite Competition.
“We hope that as we close this innovative game, we will have that sustained impact to our participants in hopes of molding them as our future robotics experts,” said Biyo. — Bea Montenegro/DVM, GMA News
