Apple's iMessage suffers unexplained outage

Some users of Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and Macs may have encountered problems using the iMessage Internet-based messaging system early Tuesday (PHL time).

 

Apple's support page indicated "some users were affected" between 1 and 3 a.m. PHL time, but did not give further details.

 

The iMessage system allows text messaging among Apple devices connected to the Internet.

 

A report on tech site The Next Web cited users who could not send iMessages via OS X and on the iPhone. The site's Roberto Baldwin said his iMessages reverted to text messaging to send messages that failed to send.

 

He added the problem did not seem related to the recent upgrade to iOS 8.1.1, as the site's test iPhones that could not use iMessages had updated to 8.1.1.

 

Enthusiast site MacRumors.com affirmed the iMessage issue is not due to the iOS 8.1.1 update. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
