Apple Watch to launch in March, says enthusiast site

Apple may formally join the wearable computing fray in March when it launches its Apple Watch, an Apple enthusiast site reported.

The company is polishing up the Apple Watch’s software, 9to5mac.com quoted sources familiar with the product’s development as saying.

"Several sources tell us that Apple is planning an extensive testing program to familiarize Apple Retail Store employees with the new product category. One or two representatives from many Apple Stores in the United States, depending on store and market size, will be sent to Apple offices in either Cupertino, California or Austin, Texas to learn first-hand about the Watch," the site said.

These training programs will take place between February 9 and 16.

Barring any sudden development, the Apple Watch is on track to ship in the United States by the end of March, the site added.

After Apple introduced the Watch last September, it has worked on the Watch OS and tested its battery.

It also is working to improve an inductive charging mechanism for charging the device.

The site said the Apple Watch will come in three variants - standard, Sport, and Edition.

It said Apple has disclosed a $349 price for the sport model, even as rumors show the stainless steel and sapphire crystal standard model may cost $500, and the gold version may cost thousands. — Joel Locsin/VC/TJD, GMA News
