Apple unveils News app for iOS 9
Apple recently released its new News app for iPhone and iPad, available with iOS 9. News is powered by Apple’s digital publishing format, News Format.
News enables users to keep track of a variety of topics, displaying the stories most relevant to the user based on their interests. The app also allows you to share or save stories for later reading.
“We already have nearly 20 publishers representing more than 50 titles joining us, including Condé Nast, ESPN, The New York Times, Hearst, Time Inc., CNN and Bloomberg,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.
Aside from the customized news feed, called For You, users can also see the channels of the publishers themselves and topics of interest in Favorites. Choosing Explore for new content generates suggestions on previously read stories. The layout is responsive, changing depending on the screen size of the device.
The free iOS9 software update will be available later this year for iPhone 4 and later, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2 and later, and iPad mini and later. — Bea Montenegro/BM, GMA News
