Capcom unveils trailer for ‘Resident Evil: Vendetta’

Celebrating its 20th year, Capcom’s "Resident Evil" franchise deserves all the attention and accolades it gets—and there’s plenty of life still in the long-running survival horror and action adventure series.

Not only were remastered versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One released this year, but gamers were also allowed a glimpse into the future with a demo of “Resident Evil 7: BioHazard,” a first-person horror video game that aims to return to the franchise's roots in January.

But there's more. A brand-new CG film that reunites some of the series' most popular protagonists is also coming in 2017. At last week’s Tokyo Game Show 2016, Capcom revealed Resident Evil: Vendetta, a new animated movie that sees the first game’s hero Chris Redfield deployed into a familiar mansion setting, with zombies and other terrifying monstrosities out to get his hide.

Also appearing are another popular Resident Evil protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy, and long-absent supporting character Rebecca Chambers, who hasn’t been seen since the first "Resident Evil" game and its prequel "Resident Evil Zero"—though she is nowhere to be seen in this trailer.

Resident Evil: Vendetta is written by Makoto Fukami and directed by Takanori Tsujimoto. The Grudge creator Takashi Shimizu is executive producer. Hiroyuki Kobayashi, one of the long-time creative forces in the "Resident Evil" series, was the film's executive supervisor.

There is no word yet on the film's plot, but it will be released in spring 2017. — BM, GMA News
