SPNEC breaks ground in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija for “world’s largest solar project”

Energy firm SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) has broken ground for its solar project with subsidiary Terra Solar Philippines.

In a press release on Monday, SPNEC said the ''world's largest solar project'' would cover around 3,500 hectares in the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Bulacan.

The company is already expediting its site clearing activities ahead of the construction of the project’s interconnection facilities with the national grid and the installation of over five million solar panels.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be delivered by the first quarter of 2026.

The Terra Solar project is centered around pasture lands in the town of Peñaranda. According to the energy firm, it has already completed the solar panel installation for the first of its Nueva Ecija solar developments in the same town.

It added that the project is planned to include 3500 MW of solar panels and 4000 MWh of battery storage, with an estimated cost of P200 billion.

The project is expected to generate over 5 billion kWh annually, or an estimated 5% of the total volume of the Philippine grid and 12% of its total demand.

Citing the Department of Energy, SPNEC said the project would also exceed the capacity of all grid-connected solar projects operating in the Philippines combined at over 1.5 GW.—RF, GMA Integrated News
