Huaning about to exit PAR; cyclone warning signals lifted

Weather bureau PAGASA on Monday morning lifted all cyclone warning signals over provinces in Luzon as Tropical Storm Huaning (international name Haitang) slightly weakened.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Huaning's center was estimated at 525 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes.

The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kph.

It has maintained its speed at 24 kph, moving north northwest.

The storm made landfall over Taiwan on Sunday night and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility this morning.

"All tropical cyclone warning signals are now lifted," PAGASA said.

It earlier hoisted cyclone warnings over six provinces in northern Luzon.

The storm, meanwhile, will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, which is forecast to bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Zambales, and Metro Manila.

Sea travel would also remain risky over the seaboards of northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon. —DVM/ALG, GMA News
