Bicol region prepares for TD Quinta onslaught, declares red alert status

Authorities on Saturday placed the Bicol region under red alert status in anticipation of the possible disastrous onset of Tropical Depression Quinta.

A report on "24-Oras News Alert" said that under red alert, all employees of government agencies in the region are on-call in case of emergency.

Likewise, the report said that regional staff members have conducted risk assessment on local government units, in response to state weather bureau PAGASA's earlier forecast that Quinta will rip through Bicol.

Moreover, the report said the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is preparing measures against possible lahar flow and mudflow from Mayon Volcano, as well as landslides in areas near steep slopes. —LBG, GMA News
