Trough of Tropical Storm to bring cloudy skies, rains over eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region

Tropical Storm Rai may still be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but its trough or extension will already affect parts of the country on Tuesday, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.

Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought about by the trough of Tropical Storm Rai with possible flooding or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

As of 3 a.m., Rai was located at 1,380 kilometers east of Mindanao with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour with gustiness up to 105 kph and moving northwestward at 30 kph.

It is expected to enter PAR on Tuesday evening and will then be renamed Odette.

The tropical cyclone may make landfall in the vicinity of Caraga or Eastern Visayas on Thursday afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said Odette may reach typhoon category.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will be affecting northern and central Luzon on Tuesday, PAGASA said.

Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mt. Province, and Aurora will have cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon with no significant impact.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and central Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon with no significant impact.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Wind speed forecast for Luzon, Visayas, and the eastern section of Mindanao is moderate to strong moving northeastward while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The rest of Mindanao will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the northeast to north direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Sunrise will be at 6:12 a.m. while sunset will occur by 5:29 p.m. BAP/KG, GMA News
