Easterlies to bring thunderstorms, scattered rains over parts of country

State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said thunderstorms, scattered rains, and cloudy skies may be experienced in different parts of the country due to the easterlies.

In its 24-hour public weather forecast, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga as well as in the province of Davao Oriental.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms may be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country

PAGASA also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

For wind conditions, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds are expected over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

Light to moderate winds may be felt in Northern Luzon and the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, for coastal water conditions, moderate to rough coastal waters from 1.5 to 2.8 meters are expected in the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

Slight to moderate coastal waters from 0.6 to 2.5 meters may be experienced in Northern Luzon and the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, at least three areas in the country are forecast to experience heat indices in PAGASA's "danger" range of 42 to 51 degrees Celsius on Monday.

These are:

  • Science Garden Quezon City - 46°C
  • Clark Airport, Pampanga - 46°C
  • CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija - 45°C

Some cities and schools suspended face-to-face classes due to the heat index forecast.

The heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels in contrast to the actual air temperature. Computed by factoring in the humidity as well as the air temperature, the heat index measures "human discomfort" and is the "apparent temperature" felt by the human body.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
