Culiat Bridge II on Congressional Ave., QC now open for light vehicles —LGU

The Quezon City local government unit (LGU) on Monday announced that Culiat Bridge II on Congressional Avenue, Quezon City has been opened for light vehicles, two weeks after it was damaged due to a fire.

"Matapos ang load test at inspeksyon ng mga tauhan ng Department of Public Works and Highways, bukas na para sa LIGHT VEHICLES lamang ang Eastbound at Westbound lane ng Culiat Bridge II sa Congressional Avenue simula 4:30 AM ngayong Hulyo 27, 2026. Maraming salamat po sa inyong pang-unawa," the LGU announced.

Authorities closed the bridge to traffic after a fire broke out on July 11 and reached the fourth alarm.

Parts of the bridge were found to have been damaged.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct an immediate technical assessment of the repairs needed at bridge to restore it to full functionality for motorists, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said.

Thousands of motorists pass the bridge every day, the Quezon City Government said.

Meanwhile, 38 families who were living under Culiat Bridge at the time of the fire were brought to Brgy. Payatas Transition Housing for temporary shelter until they can transfer to permanent housing, the LGU said.

The QC Department of Engineering also put perimeter fences on the sides of the bridge and under it to prevent informal settlers from setting up houses in the area. —KG, GMA News
