QC cancels classes on January 9, 2019 due to Traslacion

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista on Tuesday announced the cancellation of classes in all levels on January 9, 2019 due to the Traslacion, the procession during the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

"In view of the reported threats to the security and orderliness of the conduct of the activity, including its implications to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, Mayor Herbert Bautista issued instructions declaring a suspension of classes in Quezon City at all levels," the memorandum read.

Meanwhile, the city government of Manila earlier announced that classes in public and private schools will be canceled on January 9, also due to the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Work in government offices in Manila will also be suspended following Mayor Joseph Estrada's Executive Order No. 1.

The annual observance of Traslacion commemorates the arrival of the image of the Black Nazarene to Quiapo, Manila in 1767.
