Jasmine Curtis-Smith to star in Filipino-led international rom-com 'We Could Be in Love'

Jasmine Curtis-Smith is set to star in an international indie film alongside singer-songwriter Yao!

Filipina filmmaker Marie Jamora helms the rom-com "We Could Be in Love," which will be shot in both New York and the Philippines, according to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Jasmine will play a working-class Filipina-American woman who falls for an heir to a Chinese-Filipino dynasty, the report added.

"I grew up in the Philippines watching all the Hollywood rom-coms with my mom," Jamora was quoted as saying. "Now that I have the opportunity to direct an Asian-led romantic comedy outside the traditional American studio system, it’s so exciting to lean into the cultural nuance, authenticity and heart that global audiences are craving."

"Jasmine and Yao bring a special combination of warmth, depth and chemistry to their characters. I cannot wait to share our film with the world," she added.

The film also stars Jamie Chung, Lou Diamond Phillips, Tamlyn Tomita, and Jujubee.

Jamora previously worked on the HBO series "Fleishman Is in Trouble" and has continued to work across international productions.

"We Could Be in Love" is currently in development, with further details about its release yet to be announced. —JCB, GMA News
