Boobsie's story about Ate Gay during comedian's final days will make you laugh and cry
Boobsie recalled a funny yet unforgettable encounter with fellow comedian Ate Gay during what turned out to be their last meeting.
In an interview on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” Friday, the comedienne recalled visiting the comedian at his home in Tondo, Manila, and finding him lying down, connected to an oxygen tank, but having a hard time breathing.
“I asked him, ‘Ate Gay, what happened to you? Why are you like this?’ He told me he had been struggling to breathe since the previous day and was having difficulty speaking,” she recalled in Filipino.
“We continued talking, and then I noticed his oxygen tank. I told him, ‘How could you breathe properly when it isn't even turned on?’” Boobsie said.
She switched on the oxygen tank, prompting Ate Gay to burst into laughter.
“He was laughing so hard! He said, ‘What do you mean it’s not working?’”
According to Boobsie, Ate Gay had been struggling to breathe from morning until the time she got there, which was late in the afternoon around 5 p.m..
Said Boobsie, Ate Gay expressed relief at her arrival, grateful that someone had noticed the problem.
“He told me, ‘I was really struggling. It’s a good thing you came,’” Boobsie said.
Born Gil Aducal Morales, Ate Gay passed away on November 1 after suffering a stroke. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in September 2025.
Ate Gay fought a hard battle against cancer. In 2025, an anonymous donor helped cover the cost of his radiation therapy at Asian Hospital, while a fan lent him a nearby condo unit for convenience.
In November 2025, Ate Gay said he'd already "graduated" from radiation and chemotherapy.
In October, he held a "living funeral" with his family and close friends.
