Anton Vinzon is ready for the fight
There was a point during our recent GMA News Interviews conversation with Anton Vinzon and Bruce Roeland for their action series "Kamao" when I caught myself just watching Anton speak.
Not because he was trying too hard to impress. But because I suddenly remembered the first time I interviewed him for "Mga Batang Riles."
Back then, Anton was painfully shy. Very soft spoken. The kind of newcomer who looked like he was still asking himself if he truly belonged in showbiz. His answers were careful. Sometimes nervous. You could feel that he was still trying to find his footing.
That is why seeing him now feels different. The confidence is there now. Anton no longer looks intimidated by the room. You can see it in the way he speaks, the way he reacts, even the way he carries himself during an interview.
And somehow, that transformation fits perfectly with the role he now plays in "Kamao."
Because boxing is never just about throwing punches. It is about endurance. Discipline. Learning how to stay standing even when pressure starts hitting from every direction.
And in many ways, Anton seems to be going through that same process himself.
Honestly, I could not help but think that maybe "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0" changed him. Or shaped him.
That house has a way of exposing people for who they really are. You cannot hide inside it for long. And in Anton's case, it feels like the experience refined him into the young man people are now starting to notice more seriously.
At only 18 years old, he is already starring in a major series. In this industry, that does not happen every day. Some actors wait years for that kind of opportunity. Anton got there early, and now comes the harder part, proving he deserves to stay.
Much like a young boxer suddenly pushed into the main event, the spotlight now gets brighter. The expectations get heavier. And Anton knows that.
Especially because being the son of veteran action star Roi Vinzon already comes with pressure before he even says a line onscreen.
I asked him directly about that during our interview. And to his credit, he admitted it.
There was no pretending. No polished answer. He knows people will always compare him to his father. He knows expectations automatically become heavier because of the surname he carries.
But what I appreciated was how honest he was about wanting to create his own identity. He does not want shortcuts. He wants to experience the struggles himself. He wants people to know him for who he is, not simply because he is Roi Vinzon's son.
And maybe that mindset is exactly why he works as a boxer onscreen.
Because the best fighters are rarely the loudest people in the room. Sometimes they are the ones slowly learning how to handle pressure, expectations, and self doubt without losing themselves in the process.
What surprised me even more was discovering how practical Anton already is at his age.
He is currently studying culinary arts. And while many young stars become consumed by fame, Anton is already thinking about life beyond cameras. He openly shared that he wants backups in case showbiz does not go the way he hopes.
There is something mature about that kind of thinking at 18.
Even his plans outside acting feel connected to the discipline of an athlete. There is preparation involved. Long term thinking. The understanding that careers can change overnight.
He is also saving up for a future clothing business, inspired by his father's sense of style growing up. Anton shared how Roi Vinzon liked choosing his own look and expressing himself through fashion, something that clearly stayed with him through the years.
Maybe that is what makes Anton interesting right now.
He is young, handsome, and suddenly rising fast in the industry. But underneath all that, you still see someone trying to build a future carefully, one step at a time.
And perhaps that is why people are starting to root for him. Because beyond the growing popularity and television exposure, people are witnessing a young man slowly growing stronger in front of everyone's eyes.
Not just as an actor. But as a person.
Some stars become famous because of hype. Others become memorable because audiences get to witness the process. The work it takes to slowly become your own person.
