Filipino celebrities air support, congratulate Alex Eala on historic Wimbledon win
The entire Philippines beamed with pride as Alex Eala won against Iga Swiatek in their Wimbledon Round of 32 clash on the iconic Centre Court on Saturday.
On Instagram, the Filipina tennis ace shared photos from her victorious match and dedicated her win "to the girls with ruffled socks, light-up shoes, and chubby cheeks."
In the comments section, Filipino celebrities and personalities expressed their joy over Alex's victory and congratulated the 21-year-old Filipina.
"Aside from your skill, your character is something we’re the proudest of! We all love you, Alex!" Iya Villania commented.
Meanwhile, Ogie Alcasid praised Alex's "grit, humble confidence, and undeniable grace."
"Totoo ang iyong paniwala na 'kapag lumago, hindi na hihinto'," Ogie wrote. "You are absolutely amazing, Alex!"
In a separate post, Kuya Kim Atienza said he found himself crying at 6 a.m. because of Alex's emotional win.
Other celebrities who showed their support included Isabelle Daza, Rajo Laurel, Mela Habijan, Darren Espanto, Liza Soberano, and Gabbi Garcia.
Earlier, Alex shared her custom visor featuring an inspiring Filipino message stitched onto it: "Kapag lumago, hindi na hihinto."
Alex is set to face Jasmine Paolini in Wimbledon Round of 16.
