Dolly De Leon says she almost quit acting before 'Triangle of Sadness'
Dolly De Leon reflected on her time before making it in Hollywood.
In an Instagram post, the acclaimed actress shared a 2019 photo of herself on a video call.
Dolly thought it was a callback, but it was an interview with Ruben Ostlund for the role of “underdog turned powerhouse” Abigail in his film, “Triangle of Sadness.”
“I had auditioned three months prior and was convinced I wasn’t going to get it,” Dolly said in her caption. “Only to learn from my friend Jake Macapagal who convinced me to audition in the first place that I had a chance to book the job.”
Dolly added that the call happened in Cainta, when she and her children were living in her friend’s home.
“I had washed my crystals in salt and laid them out on my window sill under the light of the moon and made a deal with my Creator,” Dolly said.
“’If I don’t get this job I will quit being an actor,’” she vowed.
Looking back at that time, Dolly said everything was worth it.
“I look at this long haired hopeful and remember what she went through seven years ago and think to myself - it was all worth it. All the rejections, the heartache, the let downs, mistakes, disappointments, bad choices, failures - they all happened for a reason,” she said.
To end her message, Dolly has this inspiring message.
“For you who is reading this til the end: what ever it is you’re going through, what ever it is you’re pursuing, keep at it. IT GETS BETTER. I promise,” she said.
In 2022, Dolly played the role of Abigail in the critically acclaimed film "Triangle of Sadness," which earned her historic nominations at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs. Shortly after, she starred in her first American TV series, "Nine Perfect Strangers" Season 2.
She currently stars in “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
Dolly has also been cast as Lola Fatima in the DreamWorks animated film "Forgotten Island."
