Jay Ortega, Martin Javier open up on 'Kamao' roles

Jay Ortega has joined the cast of "Kamao" as Joel Castillo, Makmak's (Anton Vinzon) newest opponent.

On Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, Jay said the role has been a challenge for him because he does not have experience with boxing.

"Actually, I did not expect to be tired at that level because when you look at it, it looks easy. But when you actually do it, it turned out to be difficult," the actor said in Filipino.

Jay is known for his role as Akio Watanabe in "Pulang Araw." He also appeared in "Slay."

Meanwhile, GMA News host Martin Javier also appears in the series as a commentator. Although the role is the same as his real-life job, portraying it was still a challenge for him.

"It's a different kind of opportunity. I saw that it's different on set—the atmosphere is different, the environment is different. So for me, I just cherish the opportunity," the broadcaster said.

Martin hosts the "In the Game" segment in "24 Oras."

Meanwhile, series lead Anton said that he wants the boxing scenes to be realistic.

"Because the people won't believe it if it's fake. The comments will say, 'oh, the punches aren't real hits.' So we said, and I told myself, let's make this real," Anton said.

He added that he tells his co-actor that he will give "20-percent of force, so that people will believe and the scene will be better. And they're comfortable with it."

"Kamao" also stars Roi Vinzon, Chanty Videla, Katrina Halili, Bruce Roeland, Amy Austria, Neil Ryan Sese, Wendell Ramos, Tito Marsy, and Tito Abdul. It airs at 3:20 p.m. on GMA Afternoon Prime. —Nika Roque/MGP, GMA News
