Shirley Kuan reveals 'last straw' that led to her resignation as Bea Alonzo's manager

Shirley Kuan confirmed she has officially resigned from her post as Bea Alonzo's manager.

In a press conference livestreamed on Monday, the veteran talent manager said a number of reasons made her want to step down.

The "last straw" was getting disinvited from an event, which was a part of a deal that she closed for Bea.

"I was told by the client that I'm disinvited," she said.

"I already know what happened even if the client didn't want to tell me," Kuan added in a mix of English and Filipino. "In other words, I already know who it is."

Kuan said she's not angry but admitted, "I'll be a hypocrite if I tell you I'm not offended."

"This has never been done to me," she added. "I don't have a sin, what have I done?"

GMA News Online reached out to Bea and her interim manager Chris Cahilig for a statement on the matter, but they have yet to reply as of posting.

According to Kuan, she was disinvited on August 10 and she informed Bea about her resignation on August 11.

"As of this very moment and as of this very day, I am no longer your manager," she told Bea.

Kuan said Bea told her she did not know about what happened.

During the press conference, Kuan admitted the speculation blaming her for the cancellation of Bea's supposed Spain wedding to Vincent Co was another reason that led to her resignation.

"Kinausap ko si Bea when I resigned last August 11. Ako sabi ko, 'Bea, I just wanna make it clear. Malinaw naman tayo 'di ba — ako ba nagpa-cancel nung kasal n'yo?' Sabi niya, 'no.' 'Hindi,' sabi niya. OK," she recalled.

"I go further pa. 'At any time kahit pabiro, even in jest, did I tell you to cancel the wedding?' Baka nakalimutan ko lang. Sabi niya. 'no, never.' OK malinaw 'yan."

Kuan said she was not supposed to make any announcement about her resignation.

However, Kuan got a call last Friday from a friend, a fellow talent manager, which became a third trigger point.

"A friend of mine, who is also a talent manager, said she is friends with a certain individual and—this is unbelievable—and asked her, 'can you fight with SK?'"

"And she said, 'why? SK has not said anything bad. Why should I? And I know her, she has kept to herself. She isn't saying anything. She's very quiet.'"

Kuan said she was being made into the "fall guy" or "scapegoat" for the cancelled wedding.

"My reputation has been destroyed and they still want someone to pick a fight with me. Even when they were destroying me, I promised Bea I was not going to say anything," she said.

"But last Friday was too much. I think that's a bit too much. And I told Bea, I texted her, "Bea, I already resigned. Aren't you guys happy? What do you guys still want?"

In May, rumors spread that Bea was getting married to Vincent in Spain but the ceremony was facing delays.

The couple got married in a surprise civil wedding in July. The ceremony was officiated by Mayor Nancy Binay at the Makati City Hall.

On Monday, Cahilig confirmed that he is Bea's interim manager following reports of Kuan's resignation. —Nika Roque/MGP/LA, GMA News
