Senate honors BINI for historic Coachella performance

The Senate on Wednesday adopted a resolution recognizing BINI for being the first P-pop girl group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California last month.

In Resolution No. 370, the Senate said BINI exemplified excellence and brought pride to the Philippines “through their achievement in the global arena” during their April 10 and 17 performances at Coachella.

“For the first time, a Filipino group performed at one of the largest and most famous music festivals in the world. We can say this success is a reflection of Filipino talent and skill on the global stage,” said Senator Bam Aquino, who authored the resolution, in his speech.

“BINI’s success is a victory to be celebrated amidst the challenges and cries facing our country. During their performance at Coachella, they showcased our Filipino pride by incorporating traditional elements of ‘Pantropiko’ into their costumes, music, and choreography. The cherry on top was when BINI introduced themselves in their native languages,” he added.

The eight-member group was present when the Senate adopted the resolution during Wednesday’s plenary session.

BINI is composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena.

The P-pop girl group featured their songs Shagidi, Salamin-Salamin, and Karera, among others in their Coachella performance.

The octet also returned to the Coachella stage for Weekend 2 with a new attire and setlist, and a slightly expanded showcase of their discography at the Mojave Stage.

They also introduced themselves with greetings inspired by their respective hometowns, drawing cheers from the crowd.

The set ended with the Philippine flag shown on the screen and the line “Mabuhay ang musikang Pilipino,” of leader Jhoanna. — JMA, GMA News
