CNN Indonesia uses photo of Captain Ri from CLOY in news item about Kim Jong Un
CNN Indonesia used a photo of Captain Ri (Hyun Bin) from the Korean drama "Crash Landing On You" in a news item about North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
In a report on Tuesday evening, a plasma television display behind the CNN news anchor flashed a photo of Kim Jong Un side-by-side with Captain Ri's photo.
CNN Indonesia later issued an apology and said the "error was not intentional."
“The news package was on the issues surrounding Kim Jong Un, who was reportedly in critical condition, which has no relation to the Captain Ri character in the Korean drama series," the CNN Indonesia news anchor said. "We apologize for this mistake.”
In a report on Agence France-Presse, top security adviser to the South's President Moon Jae In said the North Korea leader is "alive and well," downplaying rumors over Kim's health after his absence from a key anniversary.
"Our government position is firm," said Moon's special adviser on national security Moon Chung-in, in an interview with CNN on Sunday. "Kim Jong Un is alive and well."
Speculations on Kim's health grew after his absence from their country's most important day in the country's political calendar, the birthday of his grandfather and North's founder Kim II Sung on April 15.
"Crash Landing on You" is a hit K-drama series that follows a story of a South Korean businesswoman Yoon Seri (Son Ye Jin) who accidentally crash lands in North Korea after encountering a storm while paragliding.
She meets Captain Ri, a military man in North Korea who helps her avoid authorities as she tries to find her way back home.
The K-drama, popularly known as CLOY, has consistently been on Netflix Philippines Top 10. —Jannielyn Bigtas/MGP, GMA News
