Taylor Swift fires back at Netflix show for 'lazy, deeply sexist joke'

Taylor Swift fired back against “Ginny & Georgia” after it made a sexist remark about her dating life.

Posting a screenshot of the derogatory line said in the show, the record-breaking music icon tweeted on Monday, “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back.”

“How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY,” she added.

In the same tweet, the “evermore” singer showed her disappointment with the streaming giant, who partnered with her to produce the highly acclaimed "Miss Americana" documentary, where Taylor showed her experiences in all rawness and vulnerability as she dealt with media scrutiny, slut-shaming, body-shaming and even sexual harassment.

“After 'Miss Americana,' this outfit doesn’t look cute on you (heartbreak emoji)," Taylor wrote, tagging Netflix.

"Happy Women’s History Month I guess,” the singer added.

The Netflix show "Ginny &Georgia" received the ire of the singer and her followers after one of its characters talked about Taylor's dating life, and said, "What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

This remark also immediately sparked an outrage among Twitter users, causing 'Respect Taylor Swift' to trend online.

Taylor is known for her stance against misogyny and sexism, especially calling out the double standards the media industry put on women. In 2019, she released a song called "The Man" from her album "Lover," which narrates how she would be treated differently if only she was a man.

In a radio interview back in 2014, Taylor already shut down sexist remarks about her songs and dating life.

"You're going to have people who are going to say, 'Oh, you know, like, she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends.' And I think frankly that's a very sexist angle to take," the singer said.

"No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says that about Bruno Mars. They're all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life, and no one raises the red flag there."

In another video with Vogue back in 2016, Taylor gave her younger self advice and said, "Hey, you're going to date just like a normal 20-something should be allowed to, but you're going to be a national lightning rod for slut-shaming."

As of Tuesday morning, Taylor's tweet has reached 582,500 likes and 211,700 retweets. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
