Katseye's Sophia brushes off online hate: 'The internet is not everything'

Katseye’s Sophia is keeping things in perspective when it comes to online criticism.

During the group’s appearance on Jake Shane’s Netflix and Spotify podcast, “Therapuss,” the Filipina member shared why she believes social media often amplifies negativity, reminding fans that the loudest voices online do not reflect the real world.

According to Sophia, many people on the internet tend to jump on opinions based on limited information.

“A lot of these people don't have original thoughts. Like they literally—somebody starts it. Somebody always starts it based on the tiny, tiny little information that they know, filtered literally on your screen, on a little rectangle. And then they'll see that, they'll be like, ‘Oh my God, yeah, this person's right, let's get really loud,’” she said.

She added that while online criticism can feel overwhelming, it often comes from a relatively small group of people.

“They could literally just be like, they could literally fill this room, but they could sound like a whole stadium,” she said.

The group’s leader said Katseye's massive audience at Coachella reminded her that the group's supporters greatly outnumber those spreading negativity on social media.

“People alone that came to Coachella to even just be there, they can't even see us or hear us all the way from the back. But they showed up. All of those people outnumbered the amount of people that are actually making all this noise online. It's like, people think that the internet is the whole world, but it's not,” she said.

Sophia also dismissed claims from some users declaring that Katseye was "done."

“Stan Twitter could easily be like, ‘Katseye’s done.’ No, we're not. We're just girls doing our best to empower and to impact the world, and fulfill our dream. We just want to sing and dance,” she said.

Ending her message on a lighthearted note, Sophia encouraged people not to take social media too seriously.

“The internet is not everything. Go catch some butterflies,” she said.

Katseye debuted in 2023 with six members and visited Manila in 2024 for a fan showcase, appearances, and collabs.

In February, Manon went on hiatus, and two months later, she removed Katseye from her Instagram bio but said she remains in positive communication with Hybe and Geffen.
