Ariana Grande addresses upcoming break: 'Nothing has been ruined'
Ariana Grande spoke up about her upcoming break during her “Eternal Sunshine” concert in Chicago on Monday.
In a speech, the pop star said she wanted to speak directly to fans after stories about her hiatus "got a little blown out of proportion."
She stressed that the break was not a sudden reaction to recent events.
"The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided. It's a plan that I had quietly made a long time ago, and it's a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place," she said.
The “Wicked” star also addressed concerns from fans who believed negativity had influenced her decision.
"I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the f–k opposite," she said.
Ariana said that taking time away does not mean she is stepping back from a career she deeply loves.
"Nothing has been ruined. Multiple things can be true at the same time. Boundaries can need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes. And also, this can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life," she said.
Her statement comes after her rep announced a hiatus after her "Eternal Sunshine" tour in London on September 1.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” Ariana’s legal representative told People.
Ariana released her eighth studio album, “Petal,” on July 31.
She is also set to star in the film “Focker-in-Law,” slated for a November release. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA News
