NBA: Phil Jackson to be involved with 'Seattle Kings'
NBA TV analyst and Basketball Hall of Fame-enshrined columnist Peter Vecsey tweeted out Monday that Phil Jackson is "almost a living lock" to become involved with the Sacramento Kings franchise after it moves to Seattle.
Vescey said in his tweet that the 11-time NBA champion head coach will "become [the] front office face" of the team, but will not coach, and instead, will mentor whoever it is assumes that role. [Related: Kings to Seattle deal just needs league approval - reports] The Maloof family has reportedly sold all but a fraction of their shares of the Sacramento Kings franchise to a group that plans to move the team to Seattle, where it will take on the defunct Seattle Supersonics brand. Currently, Keith Smart is head coach of the 16-25 Kings, who are third-to-the-last in the Western Conference. Jackson had previously been linked to coaching vacancies with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets. In both cases, Jackson stayed in retirement, with Mike D'Antoni going to LA and interim head coach PJ Carlesimo taking over in New York.
