Kevin Alas leads Gilas Pilipinas cadets in PBA draft

Four members of the Gilas Pilipinas cadet pool submitted applications to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) draft.

PBA D-League Foundation Cup Most Valuable Player Kevin Alas joined the list of rookie hopefuls, along with fellow Gilas cadets Jake Pascual, Ronald Pascual, and Matthew Rosser Ganuelas. The four players are also teammates in the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA.

The four played for Sinag Pilipinas in the Myanmar Southeast Asian Games last December, in which they bagged the gold medal after defeating Malaysia. Alas also saw action for Gilas in the FIBA Asia Cup last month.

Jake, a 6-foot-5 big man, previously played for San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA, while Ronald played for San Sebastian College. Ganuelas is a Filipino-American player who made waves when he was invited to play for the national team in the Jones Cup in 2012.

Other notable names in the 95-men list are Fil-Am stars Stanley Pringle and Chris Banchero, People's Champ Manny Pacquiao, and Ritchie Paul Gutierrez, the youngest son of Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama.

The draft will be held on August 24. — JST, GMA News
