Alex Nuyles had a large part in the late comeback for Blackwater Elite that forced overtime against Meralco on Tuesday.

The former Adamson wingman scored 10 of his 14 points in final period, helping his team rally from a 14-point deficit to send the game into the extra period.

Blackwater ended up losing steam in overtime to drop their third straight game, going 0-3 to start the 2015 Philippine Cup. Despite the losing record, Nuyles remains positive about the team's future.

"Sabi nga sa amin, hindi na kami katulad nang dati na benchwarmer lang," said Nuyles, who spent his rookie year with Rain or Shine, which picked him ninth overall in the 2013 draft.

Nuyles was acquired by Blackwater in the expansion draft and suddenly found himself playing with more minutes and a heavier responsibility for his team.

"Dito kasi, vital na 'yung role namin so kailangan talaga kumpiyansa ka lang every game," Nuyles said.

As an expansion team debuting in the league, the Blackwater roster is composed of players who were let go by their mother teams. For a new squad, Elite played well for the past three games, controlling the pace for most the match against Kia Sorento and Rain or Shine before falling short in the endgame.

"The only difference is matagal na silang nagkakasama-sama," Nuyles said of their campaign so far. "Kami, as I've said last game, we're starting from scratch e."

Despite the setbacks, Nuyles said the team plans to use the experience in order to build its chemistry for the next conference.

"Darating din 'yung time na magkaka-gel kami ng maayos," Nuyles said.

"Ang importante lang maiayos namin 'yung team namin sa madaling panahon. Para in the next conference mas ready na kami." — JST, GMA News
