Longtime SMB coach Norman Black visiting Samboy Lim in hospital for support
By MARISSE PANALIGAN, GMA News
Meralco lost against San Miguel Beer on Friday, but Bolts coach Norman Black has another pressing matter to think about.
The PBA Hall of Fame import received news that his former player and teammate Samboy Lim is in critical condition after collapsing in an exhibition game.
"Biboy Ravanes told me before the game that he collapsed. I wasn't very happy about that," Black told reporters after the match. "It kinda puts everything in perspective as far as what you do in life."
Lim was reportedly stretching on the sidelines after getting subbed out of the match in Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City when he collapsed. He was rushed to Medical City afterwards.
"I think everybody's sad by the news," said Black, who played and coached for San Miguel together with the "Skywalker."
Black won nine championships in the PBA together with Lim, who was hailed as one of the 25 Greatest Players during the PBA's silver anniversary in 2000.
"We've been through a lot together. We're family. We went to war together and nine times we came out the winners," the coach said.
"He's probably second most popular player in the league behind (Robert) Jaworski. I have a lot of good memories about Samboy," he added.
Black said he was headed to the hospital to give some support to Lim's family. — JST, GMA News
