Why Sean Anthony wants to get revenge on Purefoods in PBA playoffs

Sean Anthony is out to get his revenge when Meralco faces Purefoods in the playoffs on Thursday.

The 6-foot-4 Bolts forward is still carrying the heartbreak of losing to the Hotshots, then known as San Mig Super Coffee, in the semifinals of the Commissioner's Cup last season.

Anthony, who was still with the Air 21 Express then, was a key factor behind the quarterfinal slaying of twice-to-beat San Miguel Beer to set up a semifinal clash with the Mixers. But he injured his Achilles tendon in practice and had to watch as his team lost in the best-of-five series to San Mig Coffee.

"I've been using that as motivation all throughout the last three months during my workouts," Anthony told reporters after Meralco sealed their twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals after winning against GlobalPort.

They took the sixth spot in the standings, pitting them against the seventh-ranked Grand Slam champions. Because of a better quotient, the Bolts ended up with the higher seeding and twice-to-beat advantage in the series.

Anthony, however, remains wary of what Purefoods can do despite the team's poor campaign in the eliminations.

"They're the four-time defending champs for a reason 'cause they know how to close out games and how to take care of business," he said. "It's gonna be a battle, it's gonna be fun."

"I want a rematch. I'm waiting for it so I'm happy we got it. I'm excited to play." — JST, GMA News
