Amid the bickering of Talk 'N Text and San Miguel Beer about alleged biased calls in Game Two of their Philippine Cup semifinals series, league officiating came under fire anew when Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao was ejected in Game Three of his team's series against Alaska.

The coach rued the huge discrepancy in free throws and fouls awarded to both teams, with his team getting the short end of the stick. The Aces had 44 attempts for charities compared to the Elasto Painters' 24, a result of a 37-21 differential in fouls in favor of alaska.

"First half alone they got 29 free throws e. That's good for two games already for some other teams," Guiao told reporters after his team lost 94-78 and went down 1-2 in the best-of-seven series.

"We couldn't get the refs to call the fouls on us when we were attacking. 'Yun din ang naging problema," he added. "It was just the inconsistency that threw us off."

But despite his outburst, Guiao did not blame the referees for their loss.

"We got frustrated with the bad officiating, we lost our focus so 'yun ang naging unang problema namin which later complicated matters," he said."

Guiao zeroed in on Rain or Shine's rebounding problem, which has come back to haunt them in the semifinals despite finishing the elimination round with a seven-game winning streak while losing the battle of the boards in all but one game.

"As bad as we played, as bad as the officiating was, if he had just prevented those eight straight offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter, we could have had a chance," he said.

Without big man Beau Belga, who also got thrown out of the game due to continuous complaining, the Calvin Abueva-led Alaska lorded over the boards 57-45, winning 15-11 from the offensive end.

"Na-overtake kami nung situation with the offensive rebounding of the other side," Guiao said. "We've been struggling with our rebounding all conference-long, it's something that is really a big concern, it's something that we have to fix." — JST, GMA News
