PBA: Calvin Warner dominates with monster rebounding game vs Blackwater

If Calvin Warner's presence has not been felt yet in the PBA, he certainly made sure to stamp his mark on Sunday with a monster rebounding game to give GlobalPort a win against Blackwater.

Warner finished with 17 points for the Batang Pier, but more than made up for the slightly lower offensive output with a whooping 30 boards to lead the team in grabbing a total of 74 off the glass.

Both are season-high records despite the presence of taller imports and locals like PJ Ramos, Solomon Alabi, Greg Slaughter, and June Mar Fajardo.

"I just worked hard and used the efforts of my team. Everybody helped to box out in order for me to get the rebound," said the 6-foot-7 veteran.

"I gotta get credit for my teammates. Everybody played good defense," he added.

Warner has been brilliant so far for GlobalPort, averaging 21.3 points and 22 rebounds in the three games he played after replacing CJ Leslie as the Batang Pier reinforcement in the Commissioner's Cup.

He led the team to two victories since coming in, winning against Barako Bull Energy and Blackwater. The team lost against Meralco in his debut game, but he posted an impressive 24-point, 16-rebound performance.

Batang Pier is now ranked fifth in the standings with a 4-3 card, placing them in a comfortable position within the magic eight teams advancing to the playoffs.

"I think our chance is pretty good but we're not gonna settle," said Warner. "Our plan is more than just make it to the playoffs. We wanna get there and win also." - RAF, GMA News
