PBA: Yeng Guiao says old issues fueled 'drama' with former Rain or Shine import AZ Reid

Coach Yeng Guiao was ejected for the second time this season following his heated confrontations with former Rain or Shine import Arizona Reid when his team faced San Miguel Beer on Friday night.

In the dying minutes of the fourth quarter and victory already in the bag for SMB, play was stopped as the fiery mentor had verbal altercation with the former PBA Best Import.

Guiao, Reid, and Rain or Shine assistant coach Caloy Garcia were all slapped with technical fouls for profane language. Three seconds later, the coach earned another technical foul for unprofessional behavior after slightly hitting the import.

Speaking to reporters after his team lost 129-114, Guiao said he was upset about Reid's demeanor towards the Elasto Painters' bench during the game.

"Tuwing dadaan siya sa amin, meron siyang mga actuations na parang sa tingin namin disrespectful," said the coach, adding that they felt Reid was spiting the team because they did not tap him for the Commissioners' Cup.

Guiao added that they also have residual ill feelings towards the import dating back from the Governor's Cup last year. He said that the team felt Reid did not give his full effort in Game Seven against Purefoods in the finals.

"Meron din kaming sama ng loob na rin siguro na hindi mo nakitaan na pinaglaban ka all the way dun sa championship," he said.

Guiao also said that adding insult to injury was the fact that the franchise actually gave Reid the chance to play for San Miguel by releasing him.

"We could've kept him in the freezer for one year and not give him the opportunity," he said. "Tutal hindi rin namin siya kukunin, bigyan namin siya ng pagkakataon na kumita, makapagtrabaho."

"Ako 'yun 'yung nararamdaman ko, tapos ganun pa 'yung ugali niya. Magdaramdam pa rin talaga," he added.

In the post-game interview, Reid expressed his intention to apologize to his former coach, but Guiao said they need more time to let the matter settle down.

"''Wag muna siyang magsorry ngayon," he said. "Sa susunod pag malamig na." - RAF, GMA News
