PBA: Even with him resting, Romeo Travis believes Alaska could've won vs GlobalPort

Number one seed Alaska played All-Filipino in the last 29 minutes of their game against GlobalPort on Wednesday night, as head coach Alex Compton opted to let Romeo Travis rest on the bench due to a stiff knee.

The Aces would then go on to squander their 49-40 half time lead before a final surge late in the fourth, but they could not finish the Batang Pier even with a 96-91 margin in the last two minutes to end up losing in overtime.

For Alaska import Romeo Travis, however, Alaska was well capable of taking the victory even without him to anchor the team.

"We should’ve won this game," said the import, who finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 18 minutes of play for the Aces. "A few mistakes in the end cost us the game."

The game had no bearing for Alaska, so Compton decided to field his bench players down the stretch in preparation for the upcoming playoffs.

Travis was all praises for his teammates, who managed to hold their own against a talented GlobalPort led by imports Jarrid Famous and Omar Krayem until the end of regulation time.

"We are a great team before I got here. And we're going to be a great team with or without me," he said. "So I just come here and just kind of help the guys be better."

Alaska did not want to take any chances risking Travis on the floor in fear of aggravating his condition, and the import also welcomed the break to allow his overused knee to recover.

"It’s just precautionary. Before it gets too bad, they wanted me to take a break and rest when I can," he said. "In the playoffs, I won’t have as much rest." - RAF, GMA News
