PBA: Hontiveros frustrated about missing crucial trey, charities but remains positive for Alaska

Dondon Hontiveros missed a crucial trey and two free throws in the endgame of Alaska's tight Game 2 battle against San Miguel Beer on Sunday, leaving the Aces looking at a 0-2 whole in the best-of-seven finals series.

The Cebuano Hotshot admitted that failing to hit those shots bothered him, but he said he is more frustrated by his overall performance.

Hontiveros went scoreless in 17 minutes of play for Alaska behind a 0-of-2 shooting clip from deep and was generally a non-factor throughout the game.

"'Yung free throws, 'yung three points, frustrating. Pero if you look at the stats, negative 19 (plus-minus) ako so 'yun 'yung frustrating part - the whole time na nasa loob ako I wasn't really helping the team."

To add insult to injury, Marcio Lassiter's game-tying three with one minute left was shot on his defense.

The veteran shooter, however, said he's not new to committing crucial blunders in the PBA. He actually considers them as a test of character as a basketball player.

Hontiveros added that he is thankful to Alaska head coach Alex Compton for keeping his faith in him for the remainder of the game.

"He continues to trust me and I'll just rise up from this challenge," he said.

Hontiveros is also confident that Alaska can bounce back despite falling two games behind in the series, playing a lot better in their 103-95 defeat than their blowout loss in Game 1.

"The good thing is nakita namin na kaya namin," he said. "Yes talo kami but out hearts are not broken. We have a chance." - RAF, GMA News
